Household Storage Hacks

Creating storage space in your home can sometimes feel like a never-ending project – so sometimes it pays to ‘think outside the box’ and employ some unorthodox solutions.

If you can create space through the rearrangement, or better deployment, of items and room already present and at your disposal then than can be a cost-effective and practical path to take – here are some ideas for creating storage space within different areas around your home:

Storage bins on inside cabinet doors

In many household storage areas there is a space between the inside of a cupboard door and the items stored inside – make use of that wasted space by installing bins to the inside of the doors. These containers can be used for storing any manner of items which can be dictated by the room in which your cupboards sit – if the doors don’t lend themselves to having brackets screwed into them, then consider using ‘over-the-door’ shelving units you simply hang over the frame to create extra storage.

Lazy susans provide better access

When filling cupboards, depending on the items you are storing away, they may be of awkward size or shape, and can create ‘dead space’ in the cupboard, or make accessing the items again more difficult. Consider using a Lazy Susan inside the cupboard and place the items on that to create much easier access to your items.

Rolling plant stands make appliances easier to store

Many kitchens today contain a plethora of smaller appliances – air fryers, kettles, toasters, sandwich makers, waffle-irons, blenders – the list is endless! Not all of these can be on display on the worksurfaces and are usually consigned to the lower kitchen cupboard spaces – which is fine until you want to actually use one of them. These appliances, along with the regular pots and pans, usually involve a certain amount of bending and stooping to drag them out.

Rolling plant stands are ideal items on which to store these items. Place your appliances on these mobile stands and roll them into their cupboard space, they keep the appliances off actual surfaces and make accessing them much easier.

These rolling plant stands are great both storage and labour saving items!

Drawer organisers can be redeployed

Many of us may have drawer organisers at home that are no longer used, or they are inexpensive items to buy.

These organisers can be deployed elsewhere that just hidden away inside drawers. With a couple of hooks they can be wall-mounted to create space saving vertical storage, which is ideal for earrings, necklaces, and other jewelry items.
